Set Up Device
Paul Lingenfelter, an up and coming Elrae Tooling Journeyman, has designed a new die-clamping device to help speed up our set-up operations. This simple, but innovative device is comprised of a tooled steel bar and adjustable bolt.
This device has many features and benefits:
- It eliminates the need for shims and packing.
- It eliminates time spent hunting for the right size shims or packing.
- It increases safety by eliminating the possibility of shims not sitting square, thus loosening and shooting out from the die.
- It is universal, standardized and interchangeable. Different bolt sizes can be used for different die heights.
- It sits square to assure proper and level clamp down of the die to the bolster plate.
- It eliminates the need for tools. Wrenches are no longer necessary in order to clamp the die down. The jam nuts on the bolts are all you need to tighten the clamp.
- Its bolts are adjustable for odd size parallels or die sets.
Wow, What a fantastic idea! The clamping device is both a time saver and a safety improvement. Paul, Elrae’s set-up, and tool room personnel are working hard to manufacture these devices and apply their cost savings to all our stamping set-ups.
